Why SWE: For me, the importance of SWE lies largely with the encouragement from fellow members and from the national society. SWE encourages women to remain on their educational pathways, despite the road bumps that are bound to happen. I have been involved in SWE since my freshman year because I saw the support that I needed in this society and I saw the potential to help other women reach their full potentials.

Vice President Lissa Margharos

Why SWE: When I first declared engineering as my major, the main thing I noticed was a lack of women in my classes. Usually there was maybe 2-3 women per 20-25 students. After realizing this, I really wanted to get involved in something to help inspire women towards engineering and encourage diversity within the field. I got a few emails about SWE and decided to show up. Within the first two or three meetings, I met many wonderful people and made new, strong friendships. SWE has shaped my life in many positive ways with the support, advice, and networking I have gained from this society.

Other Involvement:American Institute of Chemical Engineers (Treasurer), National Society of Leadership and Success, Western Thunder Marching Band
Why SWE: SWE is a great way to meet other women engineers either younger or older and receive valuable advice. Also, being involved in SWE is an awesome opportunity to do outreach and work with younger kids interested in STEM.

Other Involvement: Chi Omega and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (President)
Why SWE: It has given me a support system throughout college. I've had wonderful experiences that I never would have had otherwise. In particular, the National conferences were really eye-opening. It's exciting to see how the STEM field is always evolving and changing.
